WHY THE WELL? “As followers of Jesus’ teachings, we believe he lived a life of unconditional love for all. We believe he taught of a “kingdom”, the kingdom of God that is here among all peoples. It is a spiritual kingdom that is all around us and even, within us. This kingdom of God is polar opposite of the kingdom of man. The kingdom of man operates in power. The kingdom of God operates in sacrifice. The kingdom of man operates in pride. The kingdom of God operates in humility. The kingdom of man operates in selfishness. The kingdom of God operates in selflessness. The kingdom of man operates in greed. The kingdom of God operates in generosity. When Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a “well” in the Middle East, he met someone who was very different from him. She was different in gender, in race, in social standing, in economic position and in religious persuasion. Yet, he loved her because loving her was the right thing to do. At The Well, we purposely seek out people who are different from us; people who are not esteemed at times in the kingdom of man. We want to love them because it is the right thing to do.”
